BURIAL OF CHIEF SAMUEL AYODELE ADEBANJO


Chief Ayo Adebanjo was a prominent Nigerian lawyer, nationalist, and co-founder of the Afenifere socio-political organization. He passed away at the age of 96 on February 14, 2025. Born in Ijebu Ogbu Oke in 1928, Adebanjo received his education at Saint Saviours Primary School in Lagos.

He joined politics in 1943 as a follower of Nnamdi Azikiwe and worked as a journalist for the Nigerian Tribune. He became a prominent voice in the fight for Nigerian independence. 

Afenifere Co-founder:

Adebanjo co-founded Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, and played a crucial role in its development.

He consistently advocated for a federal structure for Nigeria and a stronger, more democratic government.
