As we commemorate the Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day, gazetted on Wednesday by Mr. President and Commander-in-Chief, we pay homage to the valor and sacrifice of our gallant men and women in uniform. The late General Donaldson Oladipo Diya, a shining exemplar of courage and dedication, serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our heroes. As I often say, "The deeds of the great can't be easily forgotten but forever valued and remembered." Through the lens of General Donaldson Oladipo Diya's illustrious career, we honor the fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation, epitomizing the ethos of "Dukku, Iman, Waazi" - Duty, Faith, and Service.
As "the writer," I am compelled to acknowledge the indelible mark left by our armed forces on the nation's history, a narrative woven with threads of valor, sacrifice, and resilience. Their selfless service and unwavering commitment to the unity, peace, and progress of Odogbolu, Ogun State, and Nigeria, are a testament to their unshakeable spirit, echoing the timeless adage, "Nemo dat quod non habet" - one gives what one has.
I am honored to cherish the family bond and ties that bind us, and I value the virtues and legacy left behind by these heroes, whose exemplary lives have bequeathed to us a treasure trove of patriotism and duty. Their legacy serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration, reminding us of the importance of service, sacrifice, and patriotism, as encapsulated in the Yoruba proverb, "Iwa l'ewa" - character is beauty.
To the families of the fallen, I extend my sincerest condolences. May their memory be eternal, and may their sacrifice never be in vain. To the widows and injured retired armed forces, we remember you today, and we stand in solidarity with you, acknowledging your sacrifices and contributions to the nation.
As the Legion embarks on their parade today, we join them in honoring the brave and the bold, whose courage and resilience have shaped our nation's destiny. We salute their courage, resilience, and dedication to defending the masses in parts of the country, upholding the noble tradition of "Pro Patria" - for the sake of the country.
May the sacrifices of our armed forces continue to inspire us to work towards a brighter future for Nigeria, guided by the principles of justice, equity, and peace.
